1969 was quite the year for Mr. Michael Gavin, not only did he purchase his first lorry but he also married the love of his life & business partner, Maria Noone. Michael drove for Roadstone for years, where the success of this hard work enabled him to buy his second lorry in 1980.
MF Gavin & sons Ltd. took over the pit here in Kilmeague Co. Kildare in 1991. Initially, Michael installed a crushing plant to help expand the business. He continued patiently with this for a number of years and as the growth continued in 1999 changed the focus from crushing to bagging, a market-demand decision. Around this time the company changed to N&C enterprises Ltd. as it stands today.
In 1998 before he started bagging, there was approx 7 staff which exponentially grew to over 50 In the mid 2000’s. However, desperate times call for desperate measures and during the recession cut his fleet and work force. Thankfully today he has fitted a new fully automated bagging system and both fleet and workforce have been replenished accordingly.
Maria’s role was crucial to the business, managing the accounts whilst Michael was out on the road. Her consistent hard work and support has been invaluable to Michael from the very beginning to this day! Son’s Joseph & Clement have successfully taken the weight off Maria and even though she’s the real boss, she’s left the office work primarily to the men!
Michael is forever thankful to his family and team for their efforts in supporting the success of the business.
Michaels’ Interests are largely focused in the heart of his livestock farm at home! The balance and happiness from this has given him the determination and motivation he has needed to create such a fantastic business.
